CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
FIRST ON FOX: Steps away from St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church at the edge of DePaul University's Lincoln Park Campus, the serial hair salon robber appears to have struck again.
The description victims gave to police match that of the robber who has hit numerous salons in the area.
This Great Clips is the 12th salon the suspect has targeted in recent weeks, the latest in a string of robberies where the suspect seems to be getting bolder. These daytime robberies also seem to be coming with greater frequency.
Detectives were on the scene around noon on Tuesday, talking to salon employees and the manager to get witness statements.
Police said the serial robber appears to prefer salons like the Lincoln Park Great Clips because they are easy hits with minimal security, and mainly female victims who do not put up much of a fight.
Surveillance video shows that the suspect walks in, shows a revolver, grabs the cash and takes off in a matter of seconds.
DePaul students told FOX 32 News that incidents like these are scary because they hit so close to home.
"People should definitely be careful," the female student said. "People should be able to feel safe walking in to have their hair done."
The student also gave some insight as to why the robber might be targeting these hair salons.
"I think a lot of people go after cash businesses," she said. "A lot of hairdressers are paid in cash tips. A lot of places don't let you put a tip on a card."
The suspect is male, in his 30s and weighs about 200 lbs. He was last seen wearing sunglasses, dark clothing.
