The University of Central Florida Police Department is investigating reports that a student was pistol-whipped and robbed in a campus parking lot.

The victim flagged down a passerby who contacted the UCF Police Department to report the crime, which occurred at about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday in parking lot closest to the water tower at Gemini Boulevard and Libra Drive (parking lot B12 near the Print Shop).  The victim spoke with police on the scene and then was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  The victim's cell phone and car keys were taken during the robbery.

The suspects, described by the victim as a Hispanic man and three black men, fled in a gray Ford Focus.  The victim said they were wearing hoodies and bandanas.

"Students are encouraged to walk in groups whenever possible and to walk with a purpose without distractions. Keep your cell phone and car keys handy so you can reach them quickly," said UCF spokesman Grant J. Heston.
Heston added that students and staff who want escorts to their vehicles are encouraged to use the Safe Escort Patrol Service, by calling 407-823-2424.  Escorts are offered between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.  After 1 a.m. or on weekends, call 407-823-5555 to arrange a ride.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the UCF Police Department at 407-823-5555 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
