Do Lumpectomy Patients Live Longer?

Could smaller surgery equal longer life for women diagnosed with breast cancer? The journal Cancer reports that for many women less could be more.

Researchers looked at early stage breast cancer patients and compared those who got mastectomies to those who got lumpectomy plus radiation.

The result: Over a 30-year period, women who got lumpectomies were 14% less likely to die of any cause than those who had mastectomies.

Researchers followed 100,000 breast cancer patients

Breast cancer surgeon Deanna Attai from the Center for Breast Care in Burbank joined Studio 11 LA Tuesday to talk about the new findings.
