CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Loyola University has issued an alert to students after a student was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon in an alley near its Rogers Park neighborhood campus.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, a Loyola student was walking in the alley in the 6700 block of North Greenview Avenue, when he was approached by two men, an alert on the school's website from Loyola's Director of Campus Security Robert Fine said. One of the offenders displayed a handgun and took several items of value from the student, then both offenders immediately fled the scene.
The victim was not able to provide a detailed description of the offenders, the alert said. Loyola Campus Safety was working with Chicago police to investigate.
On Jan. 15, another Loyola student was also the victim of an armed robbery near the school's Rogers Park campus.
In that incident, about 9:30 p.m., a female Loyola student was walking in the area of North Shore Avenue and Lakewood Avenue when she was approached by two men, one displaying a silver handgun, who demanded her money and cell phone, an earlier alert said. The student complied and the two men fled the scene with her cell phone and money.
If anyone has information on either incident, they are asked to call Loyola Campus Safety at (773) 508-6039 or the Chicago Police Department at 911.
