FERNDALE, Mich. (WJBK) -
We're learning more about the victims of Thursday's terrible chain reaction crash on I-75 in southwest Detroit. One woman survived multiple hits while holding onto her dog.
A snapshot of a fire fighter holding that dog, Riley, has gone viral on the Internet. Heather Ramsey of Ferndale says it's a miracle she and the little dog survived.
"Literally the blink of an eye it just changed," she said. "So I hit directly into a semi and [my dog] went flying. Then, unfortunately, all the cars behind me who are now in the white out, they come in and so we got hit from behind. Then I think another semi came and hit him and hit us again."
"You just sit there and you just pray to God and you think this could be it. Today, right now, in a blink of an eye you can just go," she added.
Ramsey believes the air bags in her car saved them. After the crash, both she and Riley rode together in an ambulance to the hospital.
"There's really no way I should've survived and I did," Ramsey said.
Killed in the crash were 54-year-old Larry Manolis of Allen Park and two children from Windsor -- a seven-year-old boy and his nine-year-old stepsister. Their names have not been released.
At Detroit Receiving Hospital, five of the seven victims transported there have been released. We're told the two remaining patients are the parents of the Windsor children who died. The father is in good condition and the mother is listed as critical. Right next door at Children's Hospital, another child from that car remains in critical condition.
"I was lucky. We were lucky and some people weren't, and some people are still dealing with injuries and finding out the extent of just how awful this was," said Ramsey. "You just relive the noises and just the violence of it. It's awful, so I just feel sick and, again, thankful. I can't say thank you to God enough."
