NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Saturday is Groundhog Day and Staten Island Chuck crawled out of his cottage at the Staten Island Zoo and didn't see his shadow – which means an early spring!

Council Speaker Christine Quinn and other officials were on hand at the cottage to note that spring is on the way.

However, other famous groundhogs saw things differently.

Groundhog Malverne Mel on Long Island did see his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter.

The most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil had the same forecast as Staten Island Chuck. Thousands watched Phil emerge from his lair in Pennsylvania as Phil didn't see his shadow – predicting an early spring.
