Chronical Stones: Woman's passion blossoms into business
Dull moments don't come often for Su Laing. Her wheels are always cranking, especially since her hobby has blossomed into a booming business.
"I feel so driven and so compelled to do it. I'm not happy if I'm not doing it," Laing said.
The Central Florida jewelry designer's creates intricate jewelry from rocks, minerals and stones and sells them online under her business, Chronical Stones.
"My brand in itself is artistic and creative. It's about helping people tell their story through their style," Laing said. "I want you to feel wonderful when you're wearing it. I want you to feel like it's helping you to express who you are."
"My friends pushed me and loudly embarrassed me into selling my stuff to different boutiques," Laing said.
Not used to singing her own praises and putting herself out there, she did what was required to transform her hobby into money. She sent emails, made phone calls, went to networking events, sent out PDFs and flyers.
Now, Chronical Stones is so popular, Laing can't make pieces fast enough. She tried hiring help, but she quickly learned that know one knows her style and brand better than her. "No one is more passionate about it more than me," she said. Her work offers her very few time-outs, but "risk is better than regret," she said.
Her design inspiration comes from her own source of happiness and fashion trends. "I always end up keeping a few pieces for myself," she said.
