Nuevo, CA -
Maria Gonzales and
her daughter were taking an early evening walk when the women were attacked and
killed Monday.
The 911 call came in just after 5pm. The caller said they were watching a woman
being stabbed. When Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, 25 year old Connie
Gonzales was dead. Her 51 year old mother, Maria, was taken to Menifee Valley
Medical Center where she later died of her injuries.
Investigators say they're looking for a hispanic man in his early 20's who fled
the scene on foot.
Nuevo is a rural community east of Perris. Most of the folks who live there
know each other. Right now Riverside County sheriff's are looking for any
possible link between the attacker and his victims.
"We don't know if these two women were targeted but we are looking into
that," says Riverside Sheriff's Captain Scott Collins.
Sheriff's department would not say what type of weapon was used in the attack.

(CNS) Riverside County sheriff's detectives today were investigating the killing in Nuevo of two women, reported to be a mother and daughter.
Deputies were sent just after 5 p.m. Monday to the 29000 block of Central Street, where they found two women "suffering from obvious traumatic injuries," said Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Jim Erickson.
"One victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Cal Fire personnel. The second was transported to an area hospital, but succumbed to her injuries there," Erickson said.
Deputies searched for but were unable to locate a man between 18 and 20 years old wearing dark clothing who was seen running from the scene, he said.
The names of the women were being withheld pending family notification, Erickson said. The women, who were out for a walk in their neighborhood when they were killed, were a mother and daughter, KCAL9 reported from the scene.
