Aileen Wuornos hangout becomes unlikely tourist attraction

PORT ORANGE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Aileen Wuornos may have been executed in 2002, but some say her spirit still haunts her old Volusia County hangouts.

Wuornos killed seven men in Florida between 1989-90 and is the only woman who has met the FBI's criteria for a serial killer. She was immortalized in the 2003 movie "Monster," starring Charlize Theron, who earned an Oscar for her portrayal of the killer.

During her killing spree, Wuornos was a prostitute. She lived in a tiny Port Orange motel called the Fairview. She hung out blocks away, at a biker bar called The Last Resort, until the day she was arrested.

Since then, the bar and the motel, now called the Scoot Inn, have become tourist attractions. Curious customers come from all over to drink where Wuornos drank and spend time in the room where she lived.

Customers like to pose with the framed photo of Wuornos on the bar, and there's also a framed and signed "Monster" movie poster. T-shirts for sale show a picture of Wuornos being arrested, and the "Crazed Killer Hot Sauce" lists her execution date under a photo that makes her look crazy. The label reads, "WARNING!! This Hot Sauce could drive you insane, or at least off on some murderous rampage. Aileen liked it and look what it did to her."

Fox 35's Tom Johnson shows you why people are so fascinated by these Central Florida places that are forever tied to Wuornos.
