Fares rising on Main, Bergen and Pascack trains

Posted: Updated:

MONTVALE, N.J. (AP) - It will cost more to ride some trains on NJ Transit's Main, Bergen and Pascack Valley lines starting March 1.

Fares will go up because of higher Metro-North prices.

Metro-North pays NJ Transit to operate commuter trains into Rockland and Orange counties in New York.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder tells The Record newspaper NJ Transit riders on portions of the Pascack Valley and the Main and Bergen lines have paid lower fares than their NJ Transit counterparts on other parts of the system because of lower Metro-North fares.

An agreement with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority allows the adjustment.

Pascack Valley trains run from Spring Valley, N.Y., to Hoboken. Main and Bergen line trains operate from Port Jervis, N.Y. to Hoboken.
