From cows to Elvis to crazy foods, it's already been a full day at the Florida State Fair.
And it's only day one.
The Fair officially kicked off Thursday morning, with Gov. Rick Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam pulling the switch and lighting up the fair at 6:30 a.m.
"This is the best state fair in the country," Gov. Rick Scott told FOX 13 Tampa Bay's Russell Rhodes, who along with their entire Good Day team was there all morning.
"This year's theme is Discover the Fun," said Terri Parnell of the Florida State Fair. "We have 500 years since Ponce De Leon came to Florida, so we're here to discover the fun."
This year's fair features plenty of old favorites – the rides, animals, food and Cracker Country – but also has a lot of new things, including a performance by country star LeAnn Rimes.
FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg was trying some of the wacky foods at the fair. Take your pick: Chocolate covered bacon, "redneck burgers," pizza in an ice cream cone, or even deep-fried Twinkies.
That's right. Despite the trouble with Hostess this year, the fair was thinking ahead, Putnam said.
"Before Hostess went out of business, we bought cases and cases of Twinkies to preserve for the Fair," Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam said.
