MELBOURNE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Police have charged an inmate at the Brevard County Jail with the murder of a Melbourne woman.

Detectives on Friday charged Matthew James Sharp with the first degree murder of Leah Yoresh.  The body of 35-year-old Yoresh was discovered inside a home along Albert Drive on January 11.

Sharp, 22, was originally arrested on January 17 for grand theft after he and two other men were spotted driving Yoresh's 2012 Hyundai in north Melbourne.  While investigators searched Sharp's home, he was never charged in connection with Yoresh's murder.   He remained in the on $10,000 bond.

"We were just devastated.  We're all still kind of shocked, can't believe that something like this could happen to one of our friends and somebody like her," said one of Yoresh's close friends, Lesley Weaver.

Detectives said that, during the course of the murder investigation, crucial evidence was uncovered that connected Sharp to the homicide, including bloody shoe prints at the murder scene that matched the shoes worn by Sharp and blood on Sharp's shoes.   Investigators said the blood was sent off for DNA testing and the results were a match for the victim.

Investigators also said that, between the date of the murder and the day he was located in the stolen vehicle, Sharp attempted to use Yoresh's credit cards at different stores to purchase gas, food, video games and a TV.

The manner in which Yoresh died is not being released at this time.
