Several suspects, drugs, guns, money and an alligator were all taken into police custody after search and arrest warrants were executed by various law enforcement agencies on the Southwest Side and in the southwest suburbs Thursday.
Search warrants were issued after Chicago and Summit police identified suspects affiliated with gang and criminal activity in the area.
Eight people were arrested and charged with a variety of drug and weapons offenses after members of the CPD, Summit police, FBI, Cook County Sheriff's Police, Joint Task Force and DEA executed the warrants.
The three-month investigation was brought on after an off-duty police officer was shot during an attempted robbery on the city's southwest side last December, according to a release from police News Affairs.
The suspect arrested in connection with the shooting was later identified as a member of the Latin Kings. The faction the suspect belonged to was believed to be involved in drug activity in the 8th police district as well as southwest suburban Summit.
