Two dead in double-shooting in Taft

TAFT, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Orange County sheriff's deputies and detectives are on the scene on 4th Street in Taft where two men were found shot and killed inside a home.

Jane Watrel with the Sheriff's Office said the call came in just before noon on Tuesday from a passerby.  When they responded to 203 4th Street, they found the bodies of 22-year-old DeAngelo Cox and 21-year-old Nick Lewis.   Authorities said the two do not live in the house where their bodies were discovered.

Watrel said they are now looking for more than one "person of interest" in the case, but there is no active search for a killer on the surrounding streets.

"It's not in this neighborhood, so the neighbors, people in this area can feel rest-assured, feel safe, that we are looking for persons of interest to find out who did this to these young men."

Cox was known as "Snap" in the Taft neighborhood and was very popular.  He was called multiple times by friends and family as one of the few "good kids around here."  They told FOX 35 Cox used to work for the Boys and Girls Club.

Neighbors tell us the two young men grew up together, playing basketball starting in elementary school all the way through high school.  The Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida confirms both Lewis and Cox have ties to their organization.  Lewis worked part time as a program assistant until 2011.  Cox still worked as a program assistant, he was scheduled to respond to work yesterday afternoon at the Boys and Girls Club in nearby Osceola County.

The Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida will have grief counselors available to help employees and children who knew the victims cope with the loss of these young men.
