When you find out where a great horned owl ended up, you'll have hoot.
Florida Fish and Wildlife officials released pictures of the bizarre ordeal. The owl somehow ended up stuck in the grill of a Lakeland woman's truck .
Sonji Coney-Williams was driving on Florida's turnpike near Yeehaw Junction last week when she heard a smack.
"And I said , ‘oh my God, I just hit a bird,' and I said to myself, it looked like an owl, but I knew it couldn't be an owl because you never see owls in the middle of the road. You never see them at all. They're always hiding in the trees."
She continued for about 150 miles to Plantation.
It wasn't until the next day that someone told her she had a bird trapped in the grill of the SUV.
"And they were staring, and they were pointing, and so the lady finally got up. She ran over to the truck, and she knocked on my window, and said you can't go anywhere. You have to stop. So I said, ‘what's wrong?' She said ‘you have something in your grill,'" Coney-Williams recalled.
Sure enough – you could see the owl's bright yellow eyes from behind the grill. A wildlife officer arrived and helped her get the owl out.
Vets say the owl has no major injuries, and they hope eventually to return it to the wild.
