Tucson man gets prison time for 2011 robbery spree

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson man arrested in a 2011 convenience-store robbery spree has been sentenced to 4½ years in prison and seven years of intensive probation.

Pima County prosecutors say 20-year-old Joseph Slay-Hernandez was sentenced Friday.

He pleaded guilty last month to four counts of armed robbery and one count of aggravated assault on an incapacitated victim.

Authorities say Slay-Hernandez admitted robbing four convenience store clerks in May 2011 and assaulting another victim the following month while the man was bound, restrained or unable to resist.

The Arizona Daily Star says Slay-Hernandez could have received up to 52 years under the terms of his plea agreement.

Prosecutors say that if Slay-Hernandez violates his probation, he could receive up to 28 years in prison.
