CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A 15-year-old student was arrested Monday morning for trying to bring an unloaded handgun into a Northwest Side high school.
The incident happened about 8:20 a.m. at Foreman High School in the 3200 block of N. Leclaire Avenue, police said.
The teen caused a disturbance, prompting a security officer to check his backpack, where the guard found an unloaded handgun, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
No students were in jeopardy at any time during the incident, Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Robyn Ziegler said.
"CPS does not tolerate the presence of any weapon of any kind on school property for the safety and security of our schools, students, staff and visitors," Ziegler said in an email. "School officials took the appropriate steps and contacted CPD."
The teen was arrested and charges are pending, Zala said.
