Flagstaff braces for up to 15 inches of snow

Posted: Updated:

A winter weather warning has been issued for parts of Arizona with forecasters predicting heavy snow and blowing snow in some areas.
The National Weather Service in Flagstaff says the winter storm warning for the Flagstaff region will be in effect from midnight to early Wednesday evening.
Flagstaff is expected to get up to 15 inches of snow before snowfall begins to taper off midday Wednesday.

Many of the residents we talked to in Flagstaff said they dreaded the blast -- but a few were welcoming it.

The last significant snowfall came a few weeks ago, leaving a slippery mess on freeways. ADOT crews are ready to go again.

"We're getting our crews ready, snowplows are ready to hit the road tonight," said Dustin Krugel, spokesperson for ADOT. There are more than 43 snowplows in Flagstaff and drivers will work in 12 hour shifts.

Meanwhile, a winter storm warning for southeastern Arizona for much of Wednesday covers places above 3,500 feet. Snowfall is expected to range from 1 inch to 16 inches, depending on elevation.
The Phoenix metropolitan area is expected to get up to three-quarters of an inch of rain Wednesday with temperatures in the mid-50s, about 15 degrees below average for this time of year.
