Sky signs free agent Sharnee' Zoll

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO, February 18, 2013 —Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman announced today the team has signed Sharnee' Zoll to a free agent contract deal for 2013. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Zoll, 26, was a standout at the University of Virginia completing her four years as the Atlantic Coast Conference's career leader in assists (785), surpassing WNBA legend and former UVA player Dawn Staley's previous mark of 729.  Zoll was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks in the third round, 29th overall, of the 2008 WNBA Draft.  Zoll was also a member of the gold medal winning USA Basketball team at the 2005 FIBA U19 World Championships.

Zoll played in six games as a rookie with the Minnesota Lynx and was signed by the Los Angeles Sparks as a free agent in 2012. Sharnee' participated in two pre-season games with the Sparks where she averaged 6 points and 7 assists per game while averaging 21 minutes per game. Due to an unfortunate injury she missed the 2012 WNBA season. But spent time in Los Angeles rehabbing and participating in team activities and community appearances.

"We are extremely excited with the addition of Sharnee', and feel this is another positive step forward in our quest to bring a WNBA championship to Chicago," said Sky Head Coach & General Manager Pokey Chatman. "Sharnee' brings great energy and pace to the court, along with the necessary poise. She will add to an already exciting guard tandem of Courtney Vandersloot and Epiphanny Prince. What I like the most is her tremendous fire and passion to improve, not only herself but also every player around her. There was tremendous interest for Sharnee', we feel fortunate she is joining the Sky family."

Zoll, has recently returned to her Polish Club CCC Polkowice where she starts alongside WNBA star Nnemkadi Ogwumike.  CCC Polkowice currently leads the 2013 Polish League with a 17-1 record and will also begin the EuroLeague playoffs on February 19th after qualifying with a 6-6 regular season record.  Zoll, averaging a league leading 6.2 assists per game, led CCC Polkowice to a second place finish in the 2012 Polish League and earned a spot in the Polish PLKK All-Star game.  In 2011-12, Zoll's CCC Polkowice team also participated in EuroLeague Women where she led the competition in assists per game at 6.6.
