Florida launches "Designated Texter" campaign

Posted: Updated:

Many states have acknowledged the dangers of texting and driving, and have enacted laws aimed to curb the practice. Some officials in Florida are taking it one step further by launching a "Designated Texter" campaign.

According to a report on Huffigntonpost.com, Florida's Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority has launched the campaign designed to curb distracted driving.

The intent is for the driver to "hand over his or her phone to someone who can respond to text messages while the driver stays focused on the road."

The campaign urges people to take the pledge online, and to share their stories about why they are doing it.
