At times we all need reassurance, and assurances can come in many different forms. Sometimes it can be a comforting touch and sometimes it can be as simple as seeing someone we know will feed us or meet some other physical need. Such assurances can mean the world to someone like Blessance (2009), this week's Wednesday's Child.
Blessance is diagnosed with profound mental retardation due to hypoxic brain injury and "failure to thrive" and is fed through a G-tube. Despite her medical and developmental needs, Blessance continues to press on and make progress in her development. Although her responses are minimal, she craves warmth, attention and affection and will reach out for assurances … and your hand.
Blessance attends a special day-class in school and is receiving physical and occupational therapy. Blessance needs a family that can give her lots of warm affection and attention and ensure that she receives the services she needs to meet her full potential. Training, support and post-adoption services are available for any family able to embrace Blessence as part of their family and ensure her needs are met.
