Two teen girls in a stolen pickup truck crashed into a car during an overnight pursuit by troopers, injuring three people, one critically, and closing a major intersection this morning, authorities said.
At about 2:45 a.m., troopers tried to pull over a 2000 Chevy pickup without its headlights on at Goldenrod and Bates roads, but the truck did not stop, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The pickup traveled onto westbound Colonial Drive, where it ran a red light near State Road 417 and slammed into the side of a 2002 Volkswagen sedan exiting the toll road. Troopers following the stolen pickup witnessed the crash.
Julian Castrillon, 27, of Winter Springs, the driver of the Volkswagen, is in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
The female occupants of the pickup -- a 17-year old driver and 18-year-old passenger -- suffered minor injuries and were arrested at ORMC. They will be charged with stealing the pickup, driving without a drivers license, fleeing and eluding and running multiple red lights, the FHP said.
Colonial Drive was shut down for hours in both directions while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the vehicles and debris.
