CENTER CITY -

Ten bank robberies in just 20 days has FBI agents on the trail of a serial bank robber working the Philadelphia area.

"Threatening demand note, he's in and out pretty quick," said FBI Agent J.J. Klaver

For a serial bank robber, he is anything but shy.

Agents say he strikes in the morning hours or at mid day, in busy banks, with absolutely nothing covering his face. Thursday afternoon he pulled off a bank heist in Upper Darby. It was his 10th robbery this month.

"I think he feels pretty confident, but we feel pretty confident we're gonna' catch him," Klaver told FOX 29.

"He's probably got more guts than brains, just a matter of time 'til they get him," said one bank patron.

The FBI now believes the so called "note job bandit" has struck from Delaware County to the Main Line, in Philadelphia and even down in Delaware. In each robbery, he hands a note to the bank teller demanding money, he shows his face, but no gun.

"He hasn't created a commotion, just a threatening demand note. He talks quietly, then he's out of the bank," Klaver explained.

The bandit tried unsuccessfully to rob a TD Bank on Ridge Avenue in Roxborough last Thursday, then came back on Sunday and struck again. This time he got away with the cash.

"He's only threatened violence. Nobody's been hurt yet, but we want to catch him before it escalates," Klaver explained.

FBI agents say there's no shortage of surveillance pictures on this serial robber. Except for a hat and puffy coat here and there, he's right out in the open - his picture snapped by numerous high quality, digital cameras.

"To someone who's standing elsewhere in the bank, it almost looks like a regular bank transaction, piece of paper goes across the counter, money comes back," Klaver said.

There have been 16 bank robberies so far this year, with 10 already to his credit. The man has the FBI's full attention.

"It's someone who needs money and needs it quickly. And maybe that plays into the lack of concern with having his picture shown" said Dr. Anna Lawler a forensic psychologist.

Lawler says the profile of the robber may be someone looking to become notorious and capture his 15 minutes of fame.

"He's successful, He's repeatedly successful he's going to keep on doing it more and more" said Lawler.

The FBI is hoping someone knows who the man and calls police.

"We don't even need somebody who knows his name, just a tip on where we can find him," Klaver said. "It's a challenge to have somebody get to 10 and we haven't caught him yet. So we want to get him off the street.

Sources say the robber gets anywhere from a few hundred bucks on up to $2,000. There's some speculation he may have a gambling problem.

The last serial bank robber in Philly was about three years ago. The FBI says if you recognize this guy, give them a call at 215-418-4000.

Police say the robber did use a small black car to make his getaway in Upper Darby Thursday
