Finding the perfect sleeping position

Having trouble sleeping, tossing and turning all night?  Experts say there is no one right way to sleep, though certain positions can actually help keep medical conditions from getting worse.

Once you have found your ideal sleep position, avoid tossing and turning by placing a pillow in between your legs or over you chest.  Check out these helpful tips below.


Back Pain

Keep your spine in a neutral position. If you are laying on your side, make sure that your nose, chin and middle of your chest are aligned. If you are a back sleeper, putting a small pillow under your knees will help lessen lower back pain.

Neck Pain

Avoid sleeping on your stomach. Also, rolling up a common household towel and placing it behind the neck while laying on your back, will help relax muscles and make you feel more comfortable almost immediately.

Shoulder Pain

Sleeping on your back and putting towels or a small pillow to elevate the shoulder that is in pain will help relax your muscles and take pressure off of your joints and nerves.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Try to avoid sleeping on your back, instead roll on your side. If you have to sleep on your back, elevating the bed or mattress so that you are at a slight angle will help.
