Police: Girls Escape Kidnapping Attempt In Whittier

Posted: Updated:
Whittier, CA -

(AP) Police in Whittier say are seeking a kidnapping suspect who may have forced two young girls into a car.

A police statement says an 11-year-old girl was walking alone about 2:35 p.m. Thursday by Founders Park near Broadway and Citrus Street. A Hispanic man, between 25 and 35 years old, forced her into the back seat of a red convertible with a tan roof. Inside she saw another girl, about 7-years-old, crying.

Police say the girl freed herself and the younger girl near a park, and they ran in opposite directions. The 11-year-old found her way home and called police.

Police have not found the younger girl, but have received no reports of missing children.

Two similar incidents involving teenage girls and a similar suspect and car were reported on Feb. 5.

The man is described as Latino, between 25 and 35 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium to heavy build with short black hair and a tattoo of three dots on his left hand, media sources report.
