NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Three World Trade Center construction workers have been charged with possessing and selling marijuana at the site in Lower Manhattan.

The arrests Friday are part of a seven-month investigation by the site's integrity monitor and the Port Authority inspector general.

Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman says the IG's office made several undercover drug buys from the three workers at the transportation hub.

The men who were arrested have been identified as Brian McDermott, 34, of Brooklyn; John Fama, 30, of Jersey City and Cesar N. Rivera, 25, of The Bronx.

The workers were employed by Sorbara Construction Corp. of Lynbrook, Long Island. The drugs were sold to other workers, reported the NY Post.

Port Authority Executive Director Pat Foye says such behavior won't be tolerated. He says anybody who tries to get away with it will be caught, prosecuted and "permanently tossed off the site."

Controversy at the site is nothing new.

The Post has reported about construction workers drinking alcohol during the work day at the site.

And, once dubbed the Freedom Tower, 1 World Trade Center was filled with offensive graffiti aimed at several races and religions.

According to the NY Daily News, the graffiti in the men's bathrooms reported in early January included the N-word, sexist slurs and ethnic insults written on plywood.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
