Four men who attempted to rob a south suburban bank fled empty-handed Monday morning after they thought authorities had been alerted.
Two men entered the Charter One Bank branch in the 12000 block of South Pulaski Road in Alsip about 9:50 a.m. and were joined by two other men posing as customers waiting in line, FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said.
The four then announced a robbery, and one man jumped over the teller counter and attempted to get cash, Hyde said.
However, the men believed police had been alerted and fled the bank without any cash, she said. No weapons were mentioned or displayed, and nobody was injured.
The suspects, who had their faces partially covered, were only described as black men in their early 20s, the FBI said.
A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the attempted robbers. Anyone with information should call the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
There have been 25 bank robberies in 2013, according to the FBI. There were 218 in 2012.
