Eagles Release Defensive Tackle Mike Patterson

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The Eagles continued to tweak their defense Monday by releasing defensive tackle Mike Patterson, the longest-tenured player on the roster.

The move comes only hours after the team announced it had released defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins.

"Mike Patterson is one of the toughest players I have ever been around in the National Football League," general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement on the team's official website. "He has overcome many obstacles throughout his career and I have the upmost respect for him because of it."

Patterson, 29, played in 122 games with the Eagles and started in 106 of them over eight seasons, according to the team's website.

Patterson missed the first seven games of the 2012 season after undergoing surgery for a rare brain condition known as AVM. The defensive tackle was diagnosed with the condition after suffering a seizure during a training camp practice in 2011.

According to the Eagles, offensive tackle Todd Herremans is now the team's longest-tenured player with the release of Patterson.

Tuesday morning will feature another round patchy fog. It will be a mild and muggy start with temps in the mid 60s for the city and around 60 for the suburbs.  Look for more clouds than sun with highs the low 80s. There could be a few spotty showers during the day.
