Bank robbers apparently wanted to get their day's work done before the snowstorm got in the way Tuesday morning.
Police and the FBI report two bank branches -- one in south suburban Tinley Park and the other in northwest Indiana -- were robbed Tuesday morning.
About 10:15 a.m. a man robbed the First Midwest Bank branch at 167th Street and 80th Avenue in Tinley Park, police there said.
The robber was described as a white man between 45 and 50, about 6 feet tall, police said. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.
Tinley Park police said the man did not use a weapon and did not imply that he had one.
He was last seen on foot in the area of the bank, and police were concentrating their search efforts there. Police said there was no immediate danger to those in the area, but that residents should report suspicious activity by calling 911.
In Dyer, Ind., a man robbed the TCF Bank branch at 805 Joliet St., according to the FBI.
The robber was described as a black man between 30 and 40, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7, wearing a dark coat. No weapon was shown in the robbery.
So far this year there have been at least 27 bank robberies in the Chicago metropolitan area, according to the FBI. In 2012 there were 218.
