FBI Reports Arrest Of Serial Bank Robbery Suspect

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Federal authorities say they've nabbed a serial bank robber who they believe is responsible for nine heists or attempts in the past month.

Tarik Hooks, of the 1600 block of North Allison Street in Philadelphia, is charged in the robbery spree that began on Feb. 2, according to court documents.

The first robbery was one at a Citizens Bank on City Avenue in Bala Cynwyd, and the latest was one week ago at a TD Bank on Garrett Road in Drexel Hill.

The suspect was never shy about showing his face, as surveillance video from the prior heists shows.

The FBI says an anonymous tip to a security officer for one of the banks led them to Hooks as a possible suspect, and he was later seen driving a white SUV that was similar to one seen leaving the scene after a bank robbery on Feb. 7 in Clifton Heights.

Authorities believe Hooks stole other vehicles to commit some of the robberies, and may have also used addresses on the 6100 block of Spruce Street and the 3400 block of Fairmount Avenue.

He eventually provided a statement confessing to the nine robberies or attempts, as well as a job at a Citizens Bank in Wilmington, Del., on Feb. 10.

At least $23,000 was taken during the robberies, according to figures provided in the court documents.
