An Atlanta woman has filed a lawsuit claiming that former NBA great Michael Jordan is the father of her teenaged son.
Pamela Smith filed a "complaint of determination of paternity and support" in Fulton County Superior Court, saying that the Hall of Fame player and current Charlotte Bobcats owner is the father of her 16-year-old son, Taj Reynolds,
The suit requests that Jordan take a paternity test, pay child support and share medical costs not covered by insurance. The lawsuit also requests that the boy's last name be changed to Jordan and for the judge to issue him a new birth certificate.
Jordan's publicist said that the basketball legend had no comment.
April Love, a friend speaking for Pamela Smith and Taj Reynolds, told FOX 5 that the couple met in Chicago and began dating in 1988. That relationship lasted two years, according to Love.
She maintains that Taj was later conceived in 1995. Jordan was married at the time.
"Pamela had no choice but to support her son and his desire to forge a relationship with his father. That's why she is now speaking out and prompting Michael to do the right thing and be a father to his son. Bottom line, Pamela was a girlfriend not a baby's mama and Taj was conceived in love," Love said in a statement.
The paternity was kept quiet until Taj Reynolds released a YouTube video in December, claiming to be Jordan's son.
A court date is scheduled for March 12 in Fulton County.
