CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Since taking the lead in Illinois' 2nd congressional district before the special primary elections, Robin Kelly has faced tough questions.
An inspector general's report concluded that in 2010, while campaigning for Illinois treasurer, Kelly failed to properly account for time she spent away from her then-state job. Whether or not there were rule violations, she insisted she was not overpaid as a result.
"It's political silly season. That's what this is all about," Kelly told FOX 32 News. "I did what I was supposed to do. I docked myself when I was not at work. That's what happened. As the Tribune reported, there was, I owed the state no money. I did what I was supposed to do."
Since Kelly left state government, no action was ever taken on that inspector general's report. Had she stayed at the state, though, Kelly now says she would have contested the findings.
