Police were seeking the community's help investigating the murder early Saturday of a 33-year-old Elgin woman found dead inside her northwest suburban townhome.
According to police, officers were called to the home of Lisa E. Koziol-Ellis at 1 Garden Crescent Court at 2:30 a.m. for the report of an injured woman. She was deceased when officers arrived.
"Responding officers deemed the circumstances of the death to be suspicious and notified investigators," said Elgin Police Lt. Dan O'Shea in a release.
Residents of the building said they were questioned by police on whether they had heard or seen anything suspicious. They said the woman had lived in the townhouse complex for only a week.
An autopsy was scheduled for today to determine the cause of death, but investigators were treating it as a homicide, police said late Saturday.
"There are no suspects in custody at this time," Elgin Police Commander Glenn Theriault said.
The police are asking the community for assistance.
"Residents should be alert and call 911 if they see suspicious activity occurring. Additionally, anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Elgin Police Department," Theriault said.
Residents may text an anonymous tip texting 847411 and including ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information. The Elgin Police Department utilizes tip411, an Internet based tool that enables the public to text an anonymous tip to the police, and police to respond back, creating an anonymous, two-way "chat," Theriault said.
"This process is 100 percent anonymous; the technology removes all identifying information," he said.
