Computer problems plague Georgia tag offices

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Hundreds of people were turned away from Georgia tag offices on Monday after a computer glitch.

The Georgia Department of Revenue says computers were down for several hours in all 159 counties across the state.

Officials say the mainframe issue lasted from about 8 a.m. to about 10:30 a.m. when it was repaired.  However, around noon, they confirmed a printer problem was affecting offices statewide as well.

About 60 people were in line when the DeKalb County tag office opened, and the computers were down.

"Once people got to the window we realized we were having some systematic issues and of course at that point we had to go into a different type of mode and so people had to be a little bit patient. And I will say most people were patient and understanding," said Brent Bennett, the Director of Vehicle Registration in DeKalb County.

By 2 p.m., the offices statewide were fully functioning again.

Thousands of people were impacted statewide.
