APS chief: District continuing to upgrade school security

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

The city of Atlanta's top educator says the district continues to work on plans to upgrade security.

Superintendent Erroll Davis says it's been a topic of discussion for more than a year now.

The recent school shootings at Price Middle School and Grady High School have put a spotlight on the issue.

Davis says the school system is looking toward full-time school resource officers who can work to diffuse situations before they turn violent.

Also on Monday, the school board voted to keep the year-round and a modified traditional calendar after failing to reach a consensus on a single school calendar.

Davis says the board will revisit the issue in about four months to work on a balanced calendar with similar start dates for  parents who have  children on both year-round and traditional
