NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has been scratched from Team USA's roster for the World Baseball Classic because of an injury.

He has a strained wrist, the Yankee said.

Teixeira was swinging in a batting cage ahead of an exhibition game between Team USA and the Chicago White Sox when he got hurt, the AP reported.

He'll return to New York to see Dr. Christopher Ahmad, the Yankees team physician, and Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser, according to a statement by Michael Margolis, a Yankees spokesman.
