In State of the State address, Gov. Scott says 'It's Working'

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Gov. Rick Scott delivered his State of theState address on Tuesday as lawmakers opened the two-month legislative session inTallahassee.

Scott won office on the slogan "Let's get to work" and the theme for this speech was "It's working," a phrase heused eight times during the nearly 30-minute address.

The governor claims his twoyears of cutting taxes and regulations has been good for the state, as evidenceby a falling jobless rate. This year, he is calling for a new round of taxbreaks on equipment used to manufacture goods, and a $2,500 a year raise forFlorida's teachers.

He also gave a heartfelt plea for legislators to expandMedicaid coverage for the next 3 years for nearly 1 million Floridians whocurrently do not have health insurance. The federal government has promised topay 100 percent of the cost for the 3-year, test pilot program.  FloridaHouse leaders rejected the idea on Monday.
