Athletic director, coaches suspended in Bronx Science hazing probe

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The Department of Education has suspended the athletic director and two track coaches from their coaching jobs in connection with a hazing scandal at Bronx High School of Science, an official confirmed.

"They retain their teaching jobs but are suspended from coaching," spokeswoman Marge Feinberg wrote in an email. "One is a substitute teacher, one is a fulltime teacher and one is a retired teacher."

The New York Times identified them as Marion Dietrich, the athletic director overseeing track; Aisha Bruce, the head track coach; and Cesar Gracia, the assistant track coach.

The school and police are continuing their investigation of the allegations of hazing at the school. So far, police have arrested three students.

Those three track team members -- identified in an affidavit as Thomas Brady, 16, Boubacar Diallo, 16, and Pier Berkmans, 17 -- are accused of bullying a 15-year-old freshman teammate. Authorities charged them with forcible touching, assault, and hazing, Bronx District Attorney's Office said.

They pleaded not guilty at their arraignment and were released on their own recognizance, the AP reported. They are due back in court March 8.
