Surveillance photo shows the so-called Mummy Bandit robbing the North Community Bank branch at 1555 N. Damen Ave. on Feb. 22.(FBI)
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A man dubbed the "Mummy Bandit" by the FBI because his head and face are covered robbed a West Town bank Tuesday, marking at least four such crimes committed while carrying various items such as stuffed toys and a bucket.
Besides the characteristic mummy-like face and head covering, the robber apparently has a predilection for North Community Bank, as all the banks he is believed to have robbed since December have been North Community branches, according to the FBI.
On Tuesday, he robbed the North Community branch at 2000 W. Division St. Previously, he robbed the North Community branch at 4701 N. Clark St. twice, on Dec. 20 and Feb. 1, and the branch at 1555 N. Damen Ave. on Feb. 22.
The suspect is described as 27-30, 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. He wore a construction vest and helmet in one robbery, and in all four he has had his head and face covered by a scarf and hat.
There have been at least 30 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year, according to the FBI. In 2012 there were 218.
Anyone with information should call the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
