DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A suspect has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed a single mother in Daytona Beach.
Police arrested Shane L. Cruz Jr. this morning and charged him with vehicular homicide, grand theft auto and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
Laguadia Terry was killed early Sunday when a minivan slammed into the Nissan in which she was a passenger near White Street and Madison Avenue. The minivan's driver ran from the crash scene.
Daytona Beach Police say Cruz was in the minivan, which was stolen.
The driver of the Nissan, Sterling Slaton, 26, was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Terry had just passed her college exit exam to become a nurse. A makeshift memorial of flowers, balloons, teddy bears and a cross was erected at the crash scene.
Terry's 3-year-old daughter is staying with a grandmother.
The suspect, Cruz, turns 22 on Thursday.
