Police have issued a community alert about a man who attempted to sexually assault a woman after she got off a CTA Red Line train on the South Side in the early morning hours two weeks ago.
At about 4:25 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, a man approached a 22-year-old woman in the 0-100 block of East Garfield Boulevard after she exited a Red Line train, the alert said. He attempted to engage her in conversation, but she walked away.
The man followed her westbound on 55th Street, then grabbed her jacket from behind and threw her to the ground, after which he attempted to sexually assault her. The woman was able to fight off her attacker, who ran back toward the train station.
The suspect was described as 25 to 35, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and 150-170 pounds. He was believed to be of Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent with short black hair, brown eyes, medium complexion, and a mustache and goatee.
He was wearing a gray, collared sweatshirt with dark "Old Navy" lettering across the front, and blue jeans. He may have cuts or bruising to his face and/or head.
