LADY LAKE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A woman was arrested on Wednesday after police said she attempted to vandalize a church chapel, beating a statue of St. Michael with an aluminum bat.
Elizabeth Travis, 53, was caught as she fled from St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Lady Lake. Church personnel responded to the Last Supper Adoration Chapel after hearing loud banging noises. They then discovered Travis striking the statue. Travis fled the church on foot and an employee followed her until officers took her into custody.
Travis did not provide a reason for her actions. Church personnel said Travis is homeless and she had been hanging around the church for several hours prior to the vandalism.
She was transported to the Lake County Jail.
