ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A man and a teenager have been arrested and face murder charges in connection with the shooting deaths of two people -- one a high school student -- late last month near the Mall at Millenia.
Joshua Heard, 21, and Diego Alvarez, 17, face charges of first-degree felony murder, armed home invasion robbery and false imprisonment in the slayings of Jonathan Cook, 17, and Khoy Williams, 24, both of Kissimmee. Cook was a student at Celebration High School.
Detectives think that Heard and Alvarez committed the crimes together, though Heard was the actual shooter.
An Orlando Police fugitive unit and U.S. Marshals arrested Heard in the Ivey Lane area of Orlando late Wednesday night.
"The Orlando Police Department's detectives' hard work led to this arrest. Initially, Heard was listed a person of interest in this case. We're just glad this suspected killer is off the streets," Orlando Police Sgt. Jim Young said.
Heard previously had been listed as a person of interest in the homicide case.
Cook and Williams were slain during a home invasion robbery while visiting friends at Middlebrook Farms apartments off Conroy Road. A third victim, 22, survived the shooting.
