ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A garbage truck crashed into an Orlando-area house this morning after the driver lost control trying to close his door that had swung open, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say.
The garbage truck was traveling northbound on Fern Creek Avenue just after 7:30 a.m. when the driver, Andrew Modeste, made a right turn onto Lake Margaret Drive.
Modeste, 39, of Orlando, said his door swung open. As he tried to close it, he lost control, and the truck traveled off the roadway and struck the back of a home at the intersection, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.
No one was injured.
The residents said they were eating breakfast and drinking coffee when the garbage truck crashed into the home, just five feet away from where they were sitting.
The residents said they are renting the home, which a neighbor said has been on the market for some time and had just been remodeled.
The crash is under investigation, FHP said.
