DELAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
One employee and three residents at an assisted living center in DeLand had money stolen out of their wallets and purses, according to a police report.
The security guard at Alliance Community Center informed police after an employee first noticed money missing from her wallet on February 15. The staff member told officers that her purse was in an unlocked bathroom closet near a dining hall, when she thinks the money was taken.
That same day, a couple in their eighties said money was taken from both of their wallets, and later, a 79-year-old resident said her money was taken from her wallet which she said she had hidden behind her rocking chair.
The security team at the center is working with DeLand police on notifying residents about locking up personal belongings while they investigate.
