TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A proposed Tucson law to require people to promptly notify police when guns are lost or stolen is drawing criticism.

Advocates for gun owners say such an ordinance would burden crime victims and police.

Councilman Steve Kozachik is proposing the ordinance. He says requiring reports would help track guns used in crimes and make it harder for people to turn over guns to criminals.

Kozachik says he is working with the city attorney on specifics and should have a draft of the proposal by March 19.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that dozens of other jurisdictions around the country have similar laws.
