Saving the California Dream: PhonePower.com

Posted: Updated:

Remember when pagers were all the rage?

Back in the ‘90s, two college buddies start a pager company called Rampage, and then they sold it.

They then start an Internet company called DSL Extreme, and they sold that.

In 2006, they launched PhonePower.com, utilizing technology known as "voice over Internet protocol" (VoIP), which allows you to send your voice over the Internet.

The VoIP market is booming, growing 14.2 percent last year, reaching a worth of $15.4 billion.

PhonePower.com President Jim Murphy tells our "Saving the California Dream" producer he doesn't consider other VoIP companies his competition.

He says he's competing with phone companies that are still charging $35 bucks a month for a land line, whether you use it or not.

And good news for those out of work: PhonePower.com is hiring.
