Family With Sick Children Robbed At Home

Posted: Updated:

Becky and Steve Vivian of Oaks, Montgomery County have their hands full caring for two of four children with a rare genetic disorder called metachromatic leukodystrophy.  It attacks the brain and central nervous system.

Hard times got even harder on Thursday when someone broke into their home and stole priceless jewelry and a mixture of cash and change the kids had been saving over three years.

"It breaks my heart that they have to go through this," said Becky Vivian.

She noticed something strange when she returned from shopping just after noon Thursday to find her front door open. She said everything seemed normal downstairs, but found a total mess when she walked into the upstairs bedrooms.

"All these drawers were open," she told FOX29 after taking our cameras on a tour of the damage.

Becky Vivian thinks the crook or crooks got out through the front door, taking not just their belongings but their sense of safety as well.  She is especially concerned about the impact it will have on their kids.

"They are growing up faster than most kids have to with everything that's going on and now to have this happen, you know it takes your security away."

She said neighbors reported seeing a suspicious older model blue Ford F-150 in her driveway around the time the burglary happened.

Upper Providence Police are investigating.
