NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
A taxiing plane clipped the wing of a JetBlue plane on the tarmac at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Saturday morning.
It happened about 6:15 a.m. and involved JetBlue Flight 145 and an Air India plane. It happened outside of Terminal 4. The JetBlue plane had pushed back from Gate 5 with more than 100 passengers on board when the incident took place.
There were some flight delays as a result of this accident. And while some might say what's the big deal so two planes had a minor fender bender -- the reality is both planes were full of passengers and when you listen to this exclusive cockpit recording ...
"Jet Blue 145: we had a problem."
In an exclusive recording obtained by Fox 5, you hear as the Jet Blue pilot talks to the ground crew at JFK just moments after his plane is clipped by another plane.
"The plane got jerked around pretty good and I don't know what happened if someone just hit us or what," said the pilot.
The "us" is Jet Blue Flight 145 en route to West Palm Beach, Florida with 155 people on board.
In exclusive photos obtained by law enforcement sources by Fox 5's Lisa Evers, you can see the damage on both planes. The Jet Blue plane was parked near its gate when an Air India flight was taxiing in.
That's when an Air India's wing tip hit the Jet Blue rudder. No one was hurt but on the recording, you can hear concern and confusion.
"The report we're getting right now is the tow bar snapped upon pushback that's probably the jolt you felt," said JFK ground control.
"No, no, no, no, no that happened five six minutes ago we just got hit or something happened," replied the pilot.
"Alright copy, that we'll have our coordinators review that tape," replied ground control.
"Right, and then have someone talk to me will ya? "I'd like to know what's going on I have a full airplane and no one's been in communication with me at all," replied the pilot.
While we still don't know how this accident happened. Going by the cockpit recording, better communication is needed.
"I need a supervisor to plug in a headset and talk to me, they've got 50 people on the ground here and no one's said a word to us," said Flight 145.
"Copy that we're going to be pulling you back to the gate where they've got to do an inspection on that and everything else and see exactly what happened back there but we're going to pull you back," said ground control.
"Are you going to do that.... soon?" replied Flight 145.
Again no one was hurt. In a statement, Jet Blue confirmed the incident and said its passengers, aboard a new plane, arrived in Florida around noon.
The FAA also told Fox 5 in a statement that's its investigating the incident.
