CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A man was killed when an SUV crashed into his car on the Far South Side, sending him down an embankment and onto the roadway on Interstate 57.
The man, 37, was driving northbound on Racine Avenue near 100th Street when an SUV -- possibly a Land Rover -- traveling the same direction hit his car about 1:05 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The man's Dodge Stratus went down an embankment and crashed onto the roadway on Interstate 57, where he was ejected, Alfaro said.
Corey Owens, of the 5900 block of South Sangamon Avenue, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The driver killed was the only person in the car, police said. Police believe the driver of the SUV may have fled, though the SUV remains at the scene as authorities continue to investigate early Saturday.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the wreck.
